The Selectmen were founded in the city of Detroit in June 1973 by a group of individuals who expressed a sincere desire to promote a unique fellowship throughout the club society.

Upon formation the Selectmen chose as their club insignia the fleur-de-lis, in honor of the French founders of Detroit. Club colors of red and white were also chosen

Since its beginning the organization has grown from seven men to 15 pledges and members who share fun and friendship

During the past year the club has experienced many successful endeavors. These achievements include assisting with the first super-run held in the Mid-West (Mid-West 74)
